How we calculate scores
Houmtna is a community platform: every rating comes from real residents. Here is exactly how scores are calculated, so the results stay transparent and easy to understand.
The 8 rating categories
Every review rates a place on 8 fixed criteria. Each criterion is scored 1 to 10 by the resident. The 8 criteria are:
Safety
Safety — how safe you feel in the neighborhood, peace and quiet.
Culture
Culture — cultural life, cafés, events, the feel of the neighborhood.
Public transport
Public transport — buses, trams, trains, ease of getting around.
Healthcare
Healthcare — access to care, hospitals, clinics, pharmacies.
Schools & education
Schools & education — schools, teaching quality, nurseries.
Sport & hobbies
Sport & hobbies — gyms, parks, leisure activities.
Shops
Shops — grocery stores, markets, local businesses.
Environment
Environment — cleanliness, green spaces, air quality.
Each criterion is scored from 1 (very poor) to 10 (excellent).
A review's Overall score
A review's Overall is the average of its 8 category scores. It is not a separately entered rating: the resident does not give an overall score. It is calculated automatically (rounded to one decimal).
A place's Overall score
The Overall shown on a place's page is the average of its approved reviews' Overall scores.
Contribution rules
To keep ratings honest and comparable, every account is bound by a few simple, public rules:
- One active review per place — a rejected or archived review can be resubmitted, but a place never shows more than one live review at a time.
- At most 5 places total — an account can rate at most 5 distinct neighborhoods or localities across the whole site.
- A short delay between submissions, to prevent accidental double posts.
These limits stop a single account from flooding moderation or skewing a place's score, and protect the reliability of the scores you read.
The approval process
Every review is read by a human moderator before it is published. Reviews awaiting moderation are not publicly visible. Only approved reviews count toward the scores and rankings.
How we keep reviews honest
Moderation is only the first step. Once published, reviews are still checked by two mechanisms:
Community voting
Every published review can be approved or disapproved by residents. The “X approve · Y disapprove” counter helps readers spot the most useful reviews — and the ones to take with caution.
Archiving with a reason
When a review breaks the rules — duplicate, spam, or fraud — a moderator archives it with an explicit reason. The review disappears from the public page while staying kept for audit, never deleted without a trace.
No AI-generated ratings
Every rating is written by a real resident. No artificial intelligence generates or alters any rating: scores come only from community reviews.
